Misted Double Glazed Units & Broken Down Double Glazing Replacement

Is your double glazing looking foggy, misty, or unsightly? Over time, double glazed units can fail, causing condensation, misting, or loss of insulation. This is often due to the seal breaking, which allows moisture to enter the gap between the glass panes. If you’re dealing with a misted double glazed unit or a broken down double glazing system, we’re here to help with fast, affordable, and professional replacement services.

What Are Misted Double Glazed Units?

Misted or foggy double glazing occurs when the seals of the unit fail, leading to moisture buildup inside the glass panes. This not only affects the clarity of the glass but also reduces the insulation performance of your windows, making your property less energy-efficient. Common signs of broken down double glazing include:

Condensation between the panes
Cloudy or misty appearance
Reduced thermal insulation
Draughts or cold spots around the window frame

If you notice any of these issues, it’s time to replace your faulty double glazed unit.

Frequently asked questions

Can burglars break laminated glass?

This type of glass adds additional strength to your windows. To gain entry, a burglar would have to strike the glass repeatedly in the same spot in order to make a small opening. Most burglars are reluctant to create this type of noise for fear of being detected.

How to tell what type of glass?

Look closely at the glass edge: tempered glass will have a smooth, slightly rounded edge without sharp corners. Untempered glass has a sharp, unfinished edge. You may also notice small nicks or divots in the glass edge. Tempered glass has undergone intense heating and rapid cooling, so its surface is more durable.

What happens when laminated glass breaks?

These glass sheets are held together permanently by an interlayer such as polyvinyl butyral (PVB). Laminated glass is about two times stronger than standard float glass of the same thickness, with the advantage that in case of breakage, it generally holds together by breaking into a spider-web pattern.

What type of glass is most common in houses?

Annealed Glass -- This is the most commonly used glass type today and is used in most home windows. It is manufactured using the float method

Which is better toughened or laminated glass?

Toughened is around 5 times stronger than laminated. It, therefore, needs to be hit a lot harder for the glass to break. When toughened is hit with enough force, it will break up into lots of small, blunt pieces rather than long sharp shards.
